Demand for Care & Share Food Pantry Continues to Grow

Our local economy has been showing signs of improvement. There are signs of new construction and more “Help Wanted” signs in the community. Although people are more returning to work, wages are not growing and our some of neighbors are still having problems making ends meet. Over the past year, the Care & Share Food Pantry has seen a 12% increase in number of families served, a 30% increase in number of individuals served, and a 28% increase in number of pounds distributed.

help wanted signCare and Share provides community support to address immediate and long-term needs in the area of hunger relief. We provide food assistance for nearly 2,000 individuals each month, distributing over 40,000 pounds of food.

Our main food source, Second Harvest Food Bank, is experiencing a reduction in donations received. As a result, the amount of salvaged food that we can acquire from them has dropped nearly in half. Additionally, Federal and State Government supported programs continue to decrease. Our monetary donations have not increased, even though our distributions have. We are doing more with less, but this gets increasingly difficult.
As our main source for redistribution, Second Harvest Food Bank allows us to acquire food at a reduced price which helps tremendously. We are grateful to the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation, which has provided us with a grant that has helped reduce the gap between our needs and our budget. Several companies donate food which reduces our costs, and food drives sponsored by other companies and individual donors also generate a small portion of our food receipts.

If you are interested in hosting a food drive or participating in our Food of the Month program, please contact our office at 336-744-3632. Monetary donations are gladly accepted through our website or they can be mailed to our street address: 3650-J Patterson Ave, Winston-Salem, NC 27105. Because of our partnership with key sponsors, your $1 donation has on average a $3.50 impact. Your $25 Gift will enable us to feed five families with over 100 pounds of food. Thank you for considering to be a partner with Triad Dream Center.
